The green transformation of the global welding wire industry is accelerating: copper-free technology, low-carbon production and recycling packaging lead a new path to sustainable development

Driven by the macro-policy of the "carbon neutrality" goal of the world's major economies, the welding wire manufacturing industry is undergoing a green revolution in the entire chain from materials, processes to terminals. Although traditional copper-plated welding wire has stable performance, there are energy consumption and pollution challenges in the pickling and electroplating processes during the production process, and the copper-containing smoke generated during welding poses potential risks to workers' health. Therefore, the industry's research and development frontier is focusing on "copper removal" solutions. Copper-free welding wire technology with special alloy coating, nano-ceramic coating or organic composite lubricating layer as the core has become the key to breakthrough. In the packaging process, reusable metal welding wire barrels, trays and packaging films made of degradable or high-proportion recycled materials are gradually replacing traditional disposable plastic products, forming a green closed loop from production to the end of use. This all-round transformation is not only a response to environmental protection regulations, but also the inevitable result of downstream high-end manufacturing industries, such as new energy vehicles and wind power tower manufacturing, which place higher requirements on the environmental performance of their supply chains.

Looking forward to the future, the "green attributes" of welding wire products will become the core market competitiveness alongside mechanical properties and process performance. Green trade barriers in the international market (such as the EU carbon border adjustment mechanism) will also force export-oriented welding wire companies to accelerate their transformation. It is foreseeable that suppliers with mature environmentally friendly welding wire product lines and low-carbon production systems will have significant advantages in future market competition and dominate the development of industry standards.
